In 2012 something quite wonderful happened, a request went from the Prestatyn Pop In centre to a
number of festivals in Europe asking for international films made by young people which we could
screen in Wales, this was the beginning of the most incredible journey.

It was a journey that would take young filmmakers from Wales to Festivals in Serbia, Greece,
Ireland, Germany, Croatia, Norway, Denmark, Sweden and develop links with India, Australia, Brazil,
Canada, Pakistan, Iran, Gaza, Italy , Nepal America, Spain, Kosovo, Belgium, Austria and many many
more Countries.

How did this happen? It happened because of a very special group of likeminded people who
wanted to exchange knowledge, connect young people and work together. Working together for
Wicked Wales meant an invitation to Croatia in 2012 and the signing of a Memorandum of
Understanding to continue this work.

Ten years on and we were in Croatia again in 2022 at the Four River Festival which hosted the YCN
conference. A bigger and stronger organisation now with a membership of over 30 festivals and film
and media educators worldwide and the launch of our book which shares the experiences, projects
thoughts from the last 10 years. The book will be available online.

Wicked is so very proud to be the festival representing Wales at the YCN. Our thanks go to Marija
and Antonio for their commitment in supporting the Network and its members. Here’s to the next
10 years.

2012 - 2022
