Wales Youth Festival Network is an informal network of film festivals and film organisations which aim to reach a young audience for British and International independent film screenings. Anyone involved in film exhibition in Wales can join the network. The network offers regular meetings with guest speakers, information sharing and promotional opportunities for screenings and events. 

 

The network was set up by Wicked Wales director, Rhiannon Wyn Hughes

with support from Film Hub Wales and film festival partners.

WYFN was inspired by the Youth Cinema Network, of which Wicked Wales

International Youth Film Festival is a member.

WYFN offers a range of speakers and topics for its meetings,

such as using social media to reach a young audience

and how to fundraise for youth-based screenings.

Recent speakers have included: Megan Mitchell from Matchbox Cine

and Delphine Lievens, Head of Distribution at Bohemia Media.

The Network offers information to members about the latest independent film releases and promotes the BFI Young Consultants Marketing Packs. Packs have been produced on an eclectic range of titles to date including Sound of Metal, Boiling Point and Belle. WYFN aims to help film festivals and venues across Wales collaborate and work together and the recently launched Network Zine, brings together a cross-section of information about film screenings, film festivals and up and coming young filmmakers. WYFN is supported by an advisory group which meets regularly to discuss how the network can continue to best support its members whilst continuing to be relevant and current. Network members are all film professionals working in Wales. Members include Pauline Williams, Off y Grid, Alex Lloyd, Torch Cinema, Kelvin Guy, Carmarthen Bay Film Festival, Non Stevens, Into Film Cymru and Ellys Donovan, Cardiff Animation Festival. The advisory group is able to help suggest activity for the network and has recently contributed to the content of a marketing document, Young People and Independent Cinema.

The Made in Wales ethos is central to the work of WYFN and the network will support and promote made in Wales films and screenings to young audiences. WYFN works closely with Ffilm Ifanc, a group of young film programmers screening Made in Wales films made by young filmmakers.
